How to treat cold sores

Vitamin E, when applied topically, soothes the discomfort and pain of cold sores, as well as itching. You can get vitamins E and C as oral supplements, as oils and through your diet.
Foods rich in vitamin E
- avocado
- green leafy vegetables
- whole grain products
- nuts
Foods rich in vitamin C
- red berries
- spinach
- Kiwi
- broccoli
- tomatoes
- red and green peppers
Ice and petroleum jelly
To ease the pain, you can hold an ice cube on the herpes and then apply some Vaseline with a cotton swab. The petroleum jelly will remove the bacteria and reduce that pulling sensation that herpes gives you.
