Clean Monday: Why do we fly a kite & how many days do we fast in Lent?

It lasts a total of 48 days fasting before the Easter, as emphasized by Orthodox Christian tradition, as many days as Christ fasted when he was alone in the desert. In the early Christian times, the period of Lent was dedicated to the preparation of Catechists, who were baptized on Easter day.

Kite flying comes as a borrowed custom from the East. The first kites were made in China around 1,000 BC. The custom of the kite, according to tradition, symbolizes man's need to reach high into the ethers, to touch God.

The body of the kite and its tail, respectively, symbolize the body and the soul of man. Therefore, in order for the kite to fly high, there must be a balance between these two components.
