Skin Purge: What it is and how you can deal with it
It may seem like a threat, but the term "skin purge” is not as scary as it sounds. It is a skin condition that is basically not much different from acne as a result. The point that sets them apart is the reason they cause pimples and rashes. While in the case of acne the reason is pathological, in skin purging it is therapeutic.
According to what the dermatologist, Dr. Karyn Grossman at Purewow.gr, skin purging is a reaction of the skin that can be caused by various exfoliating products and mainly by retinoids. The small spots that appear under the skin, come out like pimples faster and this is called skin purging.
Obviously you can't avoid it. It is a process followed by the mechanism of your skin, in its attempt to clean. Usually these pimples last from 4-6 weeks and the good news is that you can mitigate it by minimizing the effects. Use products with retinol, but don't overdo it. They cause irritation and dryness and you don't want to push your skin to its limits. Start using them every 2-3 days and let your skin adapt. Gradually, you will understand if you should use them at more regular intervals and you will see that the irritation is visibly reduced in the areas in question. Finally, as noted by Dr. Grossman, sun protection is essential, especially in such cases.
