Mold in food and food? What should you do?
It is a phenomenon that is often observed in many households. Moldy fruits and food, with an extremely repulsive image and the first thought is that they should be thrown away immediately.
But according to Dr. Ailsa Hocking of the "CSIRO Food and Nutritional Sciences" organization, we need to know specific things and details about moldy foods as they can become very dangerous.
Most food when it reaches this state, indeed, we have to throw it away. Mold can be in places you often don't see, moist food, may have developed harmful bacteria that bring on a severe bout of diarrhea at best. The more moisture a food has, the more dangerous it is to eat.
Foods such as stews, fruit & vegetables and soft cheeses can have mold growing under their surface. In the same category are also foods such as bread and cakes.
What do we throw away as soon as we notice the appearance of mold:
– Bacon and hot dogs
-Bread, cakes and pastries
-Yogurt, sour cream and soft cheese
-Peanut butter, nuts and legumes
- Soft fruits and vegetables
- Jams and jellies
What foods are preserved even after the appearance of mold:
-Hard cheese: Cut at least 2cm around and below the moldy spot without touching the mold with the knife.
-Hard salami: Cut the moldy part from the surface and eat the rest normally.
-Hard fruits and vegetables: The small spots you see appearing on your fruit can be removed.
