7 things you are definitely cleaning wrong in your kitchen
Sometimes things that look clean, don't have to be. Maybe the detergent you're using isn't strong enough or your technique is simply wrong. Anyway, we are here to show you the right way to clean the dishes, so that your kitchen sparkles with cleanliness.
1. Glasses
We hope you don't mindlessly put all your glasses and plates in the washing machine at the end of the day... That's what you do, right? Why don't you think about grandma's wine glasses and those hand-painted cups you bought in Samos, which will be destroyed? The best thing to do is to set them aside and wash them carefully by hand.
2. Cutlery
Yes, we know, you are a regular person and a good housewife. But when it comes to placing the cutlery in the laundry basket, maybe you should be a little more… untidy! Better to have some face up and some face down so that none cover the other and they all wash equally well.
3. Ceramic pans
You probably already know this: Under no circumstances should you put your ceramic pan in the washing machine. If any food is burnt, use baking soda to remove the stain. But do you know that you should never leave it to dry on its own? To extend its life, after washing it, wipe it with a clean towel to remove the water.
4. Sink and refrigerator
“It's an all-purpose cleaning spray, so I can clean everything with it,” you might be thinking, right? Error. These cleaners are unsuitable for stainless steel surfaces such as the fridge, sink and electric cooker. In these places, use a special spray for the specific material in order to avoid "water" and blurring.
5. Cutting surfaces
Many times simply using hot water and soap does not clean the cutting surface well enough. To disinfect it after cutting poultry or meat on it, use a diluted bleach solution—just 1 tablespoon of odorless liquid bleach (no more) in 2 quarts of water—and let it sit on the surface for a few minutes. Then rinse it off and dry the surface with clean kitchen paper.
6. Coffee maker
Most people would probably never drink coffee again if they knew how dirty these devices usually are. Every time you make a cup of coffee (ie every day) you should wash all the removable parts of the coffee maker with soap and water. Once a month you should clean the inside as well, filling the water tank with equal parts of water and vinegar and normally putting a filter. After making a "coffee", close the machine and leave the mixture in the jug for about 30 minutes. Then rinse everything with warm water, add a new filter and start the machine by just putting water in the container and no coffee. Then repeat the process once more.
7. Knives
The truth is that common knives are dishwasher safe unless they have a wooden handle. The bad thing is that they often "stick" to the basket, so there is a risk of getting cut while trying to take them out, or they scratch the glasses if they are not placed correctly. Suddenly hand washing doesn't sound so bad, does it?
