6 signs that you are deficient in calcium

That calcium is a mineral element that plays an important role in the health of bones and teeth, but is equally necessary for the proper functioning of the heart, muscles and nervous system. Its lack has devastating effects on the body and symptoms appear insidiously, but steadily.

Tooth decay

Among other things, our teeth contain calcium, phosphorus and other minerals. So when the organism he doesn't have the necessary amount of calcium he needs, he tries to get it from everywhere, as for example from the teeth, with the result, however, that caries is caused.

Nails that break easily

Just like the teeth and bones of the body, nails need a certain amount of calcium to be healthy. Otherwise when there is a shortage, they peel more easily, they become dry and weak, causing them to "break" easily.

Difficulty swallowing

Another symptom that indicates a lack of calcium is difficulty in swallowing, which can lead in dysphagia. This is caused by poor muscle contractions in the neck.

Muscle cramps

Muscle cramps in the body can be one of the first symptoms of calcium deficiency and are followed by muscle pains when moving.

Insomnias

Calcium contributes to the production of the sleep hormone, melatonin. So, if you have identified sleep problems, such as light sleepers, waking up often or not being able to sleep at all, then your body may be deficient in calcium.

High pressure

The heart and blood vessels contain small nerves that are regulated by the nervous system. Calcium deficiency can cause serious heart problems, as can high blood pressure.

The signs are there to warn the body when attention is urgently needed. An average adult should consume about 1000 mg of calcium per day. If you have noticed any of the above symptoms, you should visit your doctor and add dairy products, fish (such as sardines), nuts and green vegetables to your diet.
