3 spices that fight bloating
You avoid dairy, broccoli, beans and any food that has a reputation for causing inflation and yet you still feel like a... balloon. We understand your pain. Fortunately, traditional Chinese medicine has found the cause of the evil and ways to combat it.
"When the stomach is too hot or too cold, you feel bloated," explains Mona Dunn, acupuncturist and herbalist. "That's why both spicy foods, which are hot, and salad, which is cold, can cause this sensation." The good thing is that you can fight it by incorporating spices into your diet. “In Chinese medicine, a single herb does not make a big difference because it is used in very small amounts. But if you have a mixture of spices, it creates a stronger force," says Mona.
According to the doctor, the strongest ally against the bloated tummy is ginger, which promotes the good functioning of the digestive system. He even advises us to add it to cold meals though, like sushi, to prevent bloating before it really happens.
Equally beneficial is cinnamon, which has digestive properties and helps fight gas, and nutmeg, which helps speed up digestion and relieves annoying bloating. Add these spices to your sweet and savory dishes or make a delicious Golden Milk in the morning to start your day with a flat stomach (and a boosted immune system).
