60 middle-aged people at risk of developing diabetes and heart problems participated in the experiment, who were divided into 2 groups. The first group added pistachios to their daily diet at a rate of 20%, while the second group did not eat any.
After 6 months, the results showed that the people in the 1st group had lost more points from the waist, had better blood sugar levels, and their cholesterol had decreased significantly.
As the researchers explain, this particular category of nuts is rich in monounsaturated fatty acids that lower cholesterol, increase the secretion of hormones that regulate blood glucose, increase the feeling of satiety and activate the metabolism to burn more fat.
