Myth! Sugar-free soft drinks do not help with weight loss
The so-called "diet sodas» do not help in weight loss and neither are they healthier than their sugary counterparts according to research conducted by a team of experts from Imperial College London and two Brazilian universities. Experts stress that there is no "solid evidence" to support the view that sugar-free soft drinks help fight obesity and diseases associated with type 2 diabetes. Scientists call all research conducted with "biased" corporate sponsorships and link diet soda consumption to weight loss. In contrast, those who drink these soft drinks tend to believe that they can eat more because they have saved some extra calories.
The same research found that the manufacture of diet sodas has "negative effects" on the environment. Up to 300 liters of water are needed to produce half a liter of soft drink.
