Secrets for a fast and perfect long-lasting tan

Beaches on the Greek islands, sunbathing and the perfect tan are among the first things that come to mind when we think of summer.

In a sunny country like Greece, it is not difficult to get the coveted chocolate skin that will give us a slightly exotic look. But to achieve a beautiful tropical tan, there are certain things you need to know.

So let's see in what ways we can get a perfect tan.

Natural Tanning:

Sunbathing can become your best ally in obtaining a beautiful golden color on your skin, as long as you always do it in the right and healthy way.

1. Sunscreen:

Sunscreen is not a product that will prevent you from getting a tan. As much as it will help you do it by protecting your skin. By applying sunscreen you are protected from the sun's harmful rays that can lead to sunburn, black spots, discoloration, premature aging and melanoma (skin cancer).

So regardless of your skin tone you should always wear sunscreen. What differs depending on how dark your skin is is the SPF you should choose. Women with very fair skin should use a sunscreen with a very high protection factor, while those with dull and dark skin should use a lower protection factor.

Even if the sun is not intense, you sit in the shade, under an umbrella, swim or drive, the sun's UV rays still affect your skin. Therefore, do not neglect to always wear sunscreen both on the face and on the body. And of course, don't forget to apply it to the hands and neck, two parts of the body that many people forget to apply sunscreen.

It is necessary to apply the sunscreen 30 minutes before exposure to the sun and renew it every now and then.

But if you want to get a faster tan, you can use a sunscreen with a tan booster and a high protection index.

2. Sunbathing:

Sunbathing is the natural way to get a beautiful tropical tan. However, it takes patience and care to achieve this without the unwanted side effects of the sun's UV rays.

At the beginning of summer, start sunbathing for short periods of 5-10 minutes until you get the first color. You can gradually increase your time in the sun, as long as you always wear the necessary sunscreen or body oil.

Avoid sunbathing during midday hours (11:00 – 16:00), when the sun is at its peak. Also, don't forget to hydrate your body often by drinking enough water, juices, tea, etc.

But apart from your skin, your eyes also need protection, as well as your hair during sunbathing. So make sure to always wear a hat and sunglasses. For greater protection against dehydration, color fading and hair breakage apply a sunscreen oil - hair spray.

3. Hydration:

After sunbathing, but also before it, it is necessary to deeply hydrate your skin with a deep moisturizing cream.

So take a shower to wash off any leftover sunscreen and sea salt and apply your cream. Ideal for after bathing are also after sun creams or aloe based creams. These are deep moisturizing creams that will help prevent dryness that will lead to flaking. Thus, you will keep your tan for longer.

4. Exfoliation:

Another secret to getting a perfect tan and keeping it is to exfoliate frequently (1-2 times a week) to remove dead skin cells. Otherwise, if you leave them on they will prevent the sun's rays from reaching the skin and melanin production will not be done in some places, thus often creating an uneven tan. But by making sure you have a soft, smooth and dead skin-free skin, you help better absorption and uniform body tanning.

Foods for tanning:

Beyond exposure to the sun, to get a beautiful and tropical body tan you can strengthen your body from the inside. What does this mean; Be sure to include in your diet foods that protect you from the sun's rays and boost melanin production. Who are they;

– A food rich in β-carotene is the carrot. It contains 87% of water and deeply hydrates the skin, helping it tan evenly.

– Apricots, which are rich in lycopene and beta-carotene, enhance tanning and offer antioxidant protection to the skin and body.

– Dark green vegetables such as broccoli, spinach and asparagus help in the production of melanin.

– Sage, mountain tea and green tea contain polyphenols and antioxidants and protect the skin from UVA and UVB rays.

– Liver, mushrooms, oysters and shellfish contain copper. An element that contributes to the production of melanin and elastin of the skin.

– Peanuts and almonds contain tyrosine, which boosts melanin production.

Tip: If you want to enhance the absorption of beta-carotene, combine these foods with olive oil. Also, β-carotene is sensitive and foods containing it must be consumed fresh, because its value is lost after a long period of storage.

Artificial tanning:

Many women before going to the beach to sunbathe and tan their bodies naturally resort to one of the artificial tanning methods. Who are they; See the two most popular ones.

Spray Tan:

One of the most well-known methods of artificial tanning in recent times is the so-called spray tan. This tanning spray is done with the help of an airbrush, which sprays the product on the targeted spots. Sugarcane tanning, as the specific procedure is also called, can be done both by professionals in beauty salons and at home, as long as you have the special equipment.

There are salons that offer spray tanning in a booth, but it is not as effective as an airbrush in the hand of an expert. The booth may leave spots unpainted if the body is not positioned correctly or the person being sprayed has, for example, spots where their body folds. In contrast, airbrushing is done more targeted and with more care.

This is a very economical method of artificial tanning that lasts for about 10 days.

Solarium:

The solarium is another way to easily and quickly tan the body without the sun. It is done in beds or standing tanning booths equipped with lamps, which emit UV radiation similar to that of the sun. This radiation activates the skin's melanin and gives the body the tropical tan you desire.

Self tan:

In addition to sunbathing and artificial tanning methods, there are also self-tan products. These are cosmetics that are applied to the skin and give it a beautiful golden color.

These products are available in cream, lotion, gel or spray form and are very easy to apply at home. So choose the ideal shade for your skin and apply it.

It would be good to exfoliate before application, as well as apply it to your body 2-3 days before the event for which you want to have a tropical tan. This way you will have a more natural result, as well as room to correct any mistakes.

Because after applying the self tan there are some restrictions, such as taking a bath after a few hours, it is better to apply it at night. So in the morning you will be able to comfortably take a bath.

When applying the self-tanning product, be sure to use disposable gloves to avoid staining your hands. After you are done with the whole body, remove the gloves and apply the product to your hands as well.

Caution: In case of a mistake that led to an excessive result, apply a paste of baking soda and lemon juice for a few minutes. This will help with the natural discoloration of the area.
