However, the type of shoe you wear also plays a very important role for you, as we will see below.
  3. Wrong shoes. There is no doubt that heels that harden and crack are a byproduct of regularly wearing the wrong shoes. We must choose comfortable shoes, with anatomical construction, that can match our daily obligations. Certainly, sports items most often meet the conditions to be considered suitable for both our feet and our heels. Of course, you can find other items (heels, plimsolls, booties, sneakers, etc.) that are just as comfortable and anatomical.   4. Open shoes. Although we could have included them in the previous category, we chose to mention them separately to emphasize their importance. Shoes that are open at the back (flip-flops, sandals, platforms, etc.) leave the fatty part of the heel exposed, causing wear and tear.
  5. Obesity. When we are overweight - especially when it is very overweight -, a lot of pressure is automatically applied to the fatty layer of the heel, which, as we mentioned above, equals its wear and tear.

Note, however, that what is inherited is something like a predisposition, not cracked heels per se! Whether we take care of them properly and do not expose them to factors like the above is what will play a major role in whether they will be healthy or not.

Materials you will need:

  • 1 full tablespoon of petroleum jelly (you can get the simplest and cheapest one you can find),
  • 1 fresh lemon,
  • A little granulated sugar (white or brown) and
  • A little olive oil.

1The step: Preparing legs

Fill a basin with warm water and leave your feet in it for 5-15 minutes an hour. We want them to be clean and hydrated, so the water should completely cover your ankles. In fact, you can add leaves from an aromatic plant or a few drops of an essential oil that you like the smell of, just to cheer you up and make the waiting time pass more pleasantly. Once the required time has passed, wipe your soles gently and without rubbing with the towel.
