Eating fruit helps reduce the risk of erectile dysfunction
One of the most painful experiences for a man for sure. Those who have faced it or are facing it know very well that it is not the best. According to a recent study, high consumption of foods rich in flavonoids, such as berries, strawberries, blueberries and citrus fruits, could reduce the risk of erectile dysfunction for middle-aged men.
It is estimated that about 30 million people in the US have erectile dysfunction, more specifically men over the age of 60 are at greater risk of developing erectile dysfunction, although 12% of cases are men under this age.
The researchers analyzed data from 50,000 middle-aged men. Information was collected on the men's ability to achieve a stable erection for successful intercourse and on their eating habits. It was found that in men who had a higher total fruit intake, the risk of erectile dysfunction was reduced by 14%, compared to men who had a lower total fruit intake. Men who regularly consumed foods rich in anthocyanins, flavones and flavanones had a 10% reduced risk of erectile dysfunction.
Men who combined a flavonoid-rich diet with regular exercise were found to have a 21% reduced risk of erectile dysfunction, compared to men who had low flavonoid consumption and low physical activity. Still, the link between a flavonoid-rich diet and reduced risk of erectile dysfunction was stronger for younger men.
