Eggs for a strong mind!

Because of their high content of cholesterol Msegg consumption has been accused of many things health problems, but newer research reveals that eating eggs has little effect on blood cholesterol levels while at the same time can boost brain function.

In related research that did Finnish researchers  published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, analyzed the diets of 2,497 men between the ages of 42 and 60 who had not been diagnosed with memory disorders.

Over a 22-year period, 337 of them developed a neurological disorder, with the majority of cases involving Alzheimer's.

Study author Professor Jyrki Virtanen from the University of Eastern Finland explains that "neither cholesterol nor egg consumption was associated with a higher risk of developing dementia or Alzheimer's disease." The researcher points out that "egg intake was associated with better performance on neuro-psychological tests and executive functioning tests. The findings suggest that a diet high in cholesterol or frequent egg consumption does not increase the risk of memory disorders even in people who are genetically predisposed."

Shortly before the Finnish study, another study concluded that eating an egg a day reduces the risk of stroke by 12%.

The egg provides proteins of high biological value and is a very good source of selenium, iodine and vitamin B2 (riboflavin). It has vitamin B12, pantothenic acid and vitamin D, while the choline it contains is necessary for the synthesis of acetylcholine, a brain neurotransmitter.
