SPF does not necessarily protect against UVA radiation. What to do;
The protection index number that we see on its bottle sunscreen refers to protection from UVB radiation (causes sunburn, redness and irritation) and not from UVA, the insidious radiation that penetrates the deeper layers of the skin, causing photoaging and mutations in cellular DNA.
What are we doing:
We look at the sunscreen packaging. Next to the SPF there should also be a circle with the initials UVA. Otherwise, check the ingredients on the back of the package. We are looking for the words zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. They are natural, inorganic filters that reflect radiation instead of absorbing it. Also, other ingredients that block UVA radiation are Mexoryl SX and Parsol 1789.
