Why does beer cause belly fat to accumulate?
Now that the weather is opening up, beer is an ideal choice, but there are not a few problems it can create in our silhouette and health. Do you know them?
It is one alcoholic drink, made from grains, such as barley, wheat or rye, that have been fermented with yeast. It contains potassium, sodium and a multitude of vitamins and trace elements, but in order for them to be beneficial ingredients for the body, huge amounts of the alcohol it contains would have to be consumed, so it would cease to be beneficial.
After studies, as reported on itrofi.gr, it was found that it can contribute to the increase of local fat mainly in the abdominal area, and this is due to the fact of the extra calories it contains, as it reaches the levels of a soft drink.
Also, some studies have shown that drinking alcohol can increase your appetite in a short period of time, causing you to eat more, so drinking beer regularly contributes a significant number of unnecessary calories to your diet.
Additionally, drinking alcohol can prevent your body from burning fat. This is because the body prioritizes the breakdown of alcohol over other fuel sources, so after regular consumption it could contribute to an increase in body fat, since fat accumulates and is not burned. However, studies have found mixed results. In the long term, drinking beer regularly, but in moderate portions, less than 500 ml, per day, does not appear to lead to weight gain or belly fat. Beer contains flowers of the hop plant to give it its characteristic taste, this is known to be high in phytoestrogens, plant components that can mimic the action of the female hormones, estrogen in your body, which is dangerous as it can in large quantities to cause hormonal changes increasing local fat in the abdominal area.
However, although it is possible that men who drink beer are exposed to higher levels of phytoestrogens, it is not known how these plant components affect weight or abdominal fat. It deserves further investigation by scientists while a moderate consumption does no harm, as is the case with all alcoholic beverages, as the side effects of alcohol mainly on the liver, most of the time, are irreversible.
